CONSTANT CRAVING

As previously noted, kd lang is a favorite, and this is a fine tune.  For anyone with a sharp eye for trivia, yes, that is John 5 in the background, playing guitar and shaking his head.  I am particularly fond of the opening featuring the concertina.

Even through the darkest phase
Be it thick or thin
Always someone marches brave
Here beneath my skin
And constant craving
Has always been

Maybe a great magnet pulls
All souls towards truth
Or maybe it is life itself
Feeds wisdom
To its youth

Constant craving
Has always been
Craving
Ah ha

Looks like what we got here is a separation of church and morality. John 5 is an obvious Biblical reference, but kd lang’s sexual preference is what the Bible terms an abomination, yet they happily make pretty music together. Concertina takes one back to San Selmo.

Shouldn't that be San Telmo, Hugh?

Believe you're right.

Sorry Hugh G one, but you need to read your King James a little more closely. First, go over to www.blueletterbible.org and type in abomination. You will see that it appears 76 times in 67 verses of the KJV. I would bet there are many abominations in which you participate - eating shrimp, or maybe using divers weights? How come these abominations are OK? :-) Also, read Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 carefully - they are talking about a man lying with a man; no mention of a woman with a woman. Besides, kd sounds pretty good regardless of her orientation.

Romans 1:26-32
26For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural,
27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
28And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,
29being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips,
30slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,
31without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful;
32and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.

Eating shrimp ain’t on the list of sins in Romans 1. In fact in Mark 7:18-19 we read “[18] And He said to them, "Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him, [19] because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?" (Thus He declared all foods clean.)

The only "constant craving" them types have is for the big "O." They are totally addicted to it and their lives revolve around it.

Oh, so you are going to skip from the "abominations" of the Hewbrew bible to Pauline doctrine and dogma, eh? Even so, why single out homosexuality from among all of the sexual immorality outlined, e.g. 1Cr6:9 adultery, and a lot of other stuff, e.g. 1Ti1:10 liars and perjurers and anything contrary to sound doctrine, whatever the heck that means. Seems like homosexuality is listed along many other things that most Christian folk ignore.

Oh, and don't forget envy, drunkenness, and carousing! :-)

Let’s see if Ole Biz can step in here and sort things out. In the first comment, Hugh G. observed that we have supposed Biblical Christians (John 5) associating with a blatant sinner, an entertainer who is publicly known to commit homosexual acts. Hugh called this a “separation of church and morality,” i.e. an oxymoron. This was followed by comments on “abominations” and the myriad of other sins and what and what does not constitute sin, e.g. eating a shrimp cocktail. This distracted from the main issue, which is, “Should a person or group of persons publicly holding themselves out to be Bible believing Christians voluntarily associate with a known blatant sinner?”
The Bible says, No (unless that association would be for the purpose of trying to redeem that sinner). 2 Corinthians 6:14-17: 14 Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?
16 Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, "I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate," says the Lord. "And do not touch what is unclean; And I will welcome you. And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me," says the Lord Almighty. And in 1 Corinthians 15:33: Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals."

When righteousness partners with lawlessness, the luster is rubbed from the righteousness and the lawlessness appears less egregious. For example, before the last Presidential election, Rick Warren welcomed Barack Obama to his pulpit. This served to legitimize Obama. People, especially young people, who had doubts about Obama before had fewer doubts after his association with Rick Warren. After all, “If he was THAT bad, Pastor Warren wouldn’t have given him a platform.” Rick Warren, who I don’t think would have voted for Obama, none-the-less gained many votes for Obama by giving him legitimacy in Christian environs.

Reminds me of the advice I heard a Baptist preacher once give. He was addressing the penny pinching old folks in the congregation who go out to eat after church each Sunday. These penny pinchers are notorious for leaving small tips. He said, “If you’re going to do that, please don’t tell them you’re Baptists."

Well Bizzy - I think that G_d is trying to send you a message because your "sorting things out" ended up in the Spam Folder!! :-)
